My Approach
Therapy can be challenging at times, but it can also be lighthearted. I like to meet the person, then meet the problem. I place a lot of emphasis on a close working relationship as one of the foundations of treatment.
With over a decade of training, I have undertaken additional training for treatment of developmental trauma, attachment and dissociation. For each client, I tailor an evidence-based treatment plan, utilising aspects from approaches such as:
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
Narrative Therapy (NT)
Schema Therapy
Trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour therapy (TF-CBT)

Sometimes it can be hard to express what is happening in your life, but please don’t let that stop you from reaching out for support.
If I am not the right person to support you, I can provide you with information of other service providers that may be able to assist you. At times, certain issues may be out of my scope and I will need to refer to another service provider better suited.
As a psychologist, I have training across a broad range of mental health disorders and challenges. While I can see you for a variety of concerns, currently my treatment interests include:
Trauma, both recent and historical
Dissociation
Attachment issues
Birth trauma

EMDR
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychological therapy modality that has been used for over 30 years. Created by Francine Schapiro, EMDR was originally developed to help individuals resolve traumatic memories and other difficult experiences. It has since been found to be beneficial for a variety of other presentations, such as:
Depression
Anxiety
Panic Attacks
Personality Disorders
Complicated grief
Dissociative Disorders
Pain disorders
Recovering from abuse
Performance Anxiety
Stress Reduction
Disturbing memories
Phobias
-
Often, distressing events that have happened in our life stay with us, and the brain cannot process the event like it normally would. A memory may feel like you are reliving the experience, and that the sounds, smells, sights and feeliings haven’t changed. These memories can have a lasting impact on how a person sees themsevles, others and the world around them.
EMDR aims to help people re-process the traumatic event in a way that means a person no longer re-experiences the memory.
-
Treatment is focussed on the person’s symptoms and conducted in session
EMDR has a wide evidence base and is a recommended treatment for PTSD
A person does not have to talk in depth about their traumatic experiences
Not just for recent experiences of trauma - it can be beneficial for those that had experienced trauma decades ago
Assessment - coming soon
